After months of full lockdown in Chinese Megacities as a result of the Government’s zero Covid-19 policy, Shanghai is promoting a staged resumption of commercial business and markets starting Monday, as shopping malls, department stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies, markets, restaurants, and barbershops are gradually returning to offline operations.
In the clearest timetable yet, deputy mayor Zong Ming said on Monday that Shanghai’s reopening would be carried out in stages, with movement curbs largely to remain in place until 21 May to prevent a rebound in infections, before a gradual easing.
“From June 1 to mid- and late June, as long as risks of a rebound in infections are controlled, we will fully implement epidemic prevention and control, normalize management and fully restore normal production and life in the city,” she said.
All businesses will stick to the principles of “reopening in order, limited shopper flow, effective control, and classified management” while also implementing epidemic prevention and control measures.
