Officials in New York celebrated the completion of a six-year, $8 billion redevelopment of the city’s long-maligned LaGuardia airport on Wednesday with the opening of a brand new Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) terminal.
On Saturday, nine of the 37 new gates at Delta’s gleaming 1.3 million-square-foot $4 billion Terminal C will open for business.
This summer, Delta, LaGuardia’s largest carrier, is flying 255 flights each day to 70 destinations.
The new LaGuardia terminal includes Delta’s largest airport lounge, a 34,000-square foot Sky Club with panoramic views that, when finished, can accommodate nearly 600 people. In 2017, New York and Delta broke ground to consolidate Terminals C and D into a single terminal across four concourses and a centralized departures and arrivals hall.
The terminal features high-tech artwork, power outlets at all seats, and fancy new restaurants.
Airlines are forecasting record demand this summer as Americans who delayed trips during COVID-19 return to the skies.
