Amazon.com Inc is exploring entering the Japanese prescription medicine sales sector, according to the Nikkei newspaper on Monday.
According to Nikkei, Amazon aims to cooperate with small and mid-sized pharmacies for the service, which will launch next year when electronic prescriptions become legal in Japan for the first time.
The government sets prescription medicine pricing in Japan, and the distribution system is extremely fragmented, with 70 wholesalers and over 60,000 pharmacies countrywide.
