Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, announced on Monday that the business will seek an exemption from sanctions on Iran in order to deliver its Starlink satellite internet service in the country.
Musk’s comment was made on Twitter during large protests in Iran after the murder of a woman in police custody. Some Twitter users begged Musk to create satellite internet stations.
Access to social media and other material is severely controlled in Iran, and the internet monitoring group NetBlocks reported “near-total” interruption to internet access in the Kurdish region’s capital on Monday, tying it to the protests.
