Twitter is extending the ways in which it suggests messages from accounts that users do not follow. In addition, the firm is developing tools for people to control and offer comments on such material.
Twitter stated, “We aim to make it easy for everyone to interact with accounts and Topics that interest them.” Twitter is testing the addition of “related tweets” beneath discussions on a tweet detail page. The business is also experimenting with an “X” tool that users may use to delete recommended tweets from their timelines that they do not like.
The trials come as social media giants push down on “unconnected content,” or postings from accounts that users do not follow, this year. By the end of 2023, Twitter hopes to have doubled the percentage of the suggested content in its users’ feeds on Facebook and Instagram. Since 2014, the firm has included suggested tweets in its main timeline. Twitter’s discovery efforts are mostly geared at new users, who provide fewer indications about their interests than regular tweeters.
