Italian broadcaster MediaForEurope has made a non-binding bid for a majority position in French television business M6.
The reports disclose that Milan-listed MFE, owned by the family of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has paired up with a French industrial partner that is not already active in the TV industry.
Following the failure of a proposed tie-up between RTL and sister French broadcaster TF1, initial offers for RTL’s 48.3% holding in M6 were expected by Friday afternoon.
Previously known as Mediaset, MFE is expanding across Europe to compete with streaming services such as Netflix. JPMorgan is advising RTL and its German parent firm Bertelsmann.
