According to a corporate representative on Wednesday, all sponsored activity on Twitter for Volkswagen’s brands has been suspended until further notice. Following Elon Musk’s takeover of the social media platform, Volkswagen, which owns Audi along with the VW, Seat, Cupra, Lamborghini, Bentley, Ducati, and Porsche , announced earlier this month that it had advised the brands to halt paid advertising on Twitter until further notice.
According to a Volkswagen spokeswoman, all of the brands followed the advice, however Audi decided to stop organic activity like direct postings and simply answer customer inquiries on the website.
Citing business sources, WirtschaftsWoche had earlier stated that Audi has stopped its activity on the social networking site. According to a spokeswoman for Audi who sent a comment to Reuters via email, “We are actively following the situation and will decide on the next actions based on developments.” Audi used to tweet virtually every day until stopping on November 1. Twitter was purchased by Elon Musk in late October.
