The Senate was edging closer to passing a $1.66 trillion budget bill for the United States government on Thursday. As Congress raced to pass the package before Friday at midnight, a breakthrough occurred as the Bill will forbid the use of TikTok, a Chinese-owned app, on federal devices and contains $44.9 billion in combat assistance for Ukraine.
A spending package that contains funding for U.S. border security operations has been amended in the Senate, though with less funding than many Republicans had hoped for. Programs funded by the bill would continue through September 30, 2023.
The $1.3 trillion budget plan will now be subject to votes on a package of 15 amendments, according to the Senate. The majority of Republicans are anticipated to vote against the proposal because it would boost spending without addressing important issues like border security. Despite the opposition of the majority of Republicans, the bill is anticipated to pass in the House.
The Senate has decided to permit debate on a bundle of 15 amendments, two procedural changes, and a bill for disaster relief. At least three of the amendments deal with immigration and many are predicted to be defeated. Before the Senate approval vote, it will probably take several hours to sort through all of these amendments. The House might shortly get the legislation for final approval.
