
Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov’s net worth decreased in December according to data recorded in real-time by the Forbes Billionaires Index. The president of System Capital Management (SCM) and the owner of the Ukrainian football team Shakhtar Donetsk with a net worth of US$11.7 billion as of January 2022 was believed to currently have a net worth of US$5.4 billion by Bloomberg Billionaires Index and US$4.3 billion according to a real-time assessment by Forbes.
Rinat, the richest billionaire in Ukraine and the 617th richest person in the world, saw a $7.24 billion decline in his wealth from $11.5 billion in June to $4.3 billion in December.
The Donbas-born ironworks, son of a coal miner and energy entrepreneur Rinat Akhmetov, 55, is still the richest person in the nation although being hard hit by the war. His largest holding in mining and steel firm Metinvest Group, whose plants in Mariupol and Avdiivka sustained damage from Russian attacks.
On February 28, the firm announced a force majeure and by March 31, Akhmetov declared that his holding firm, SCM, will sue Russia for invasion-related damages. This December decline follows a $6.3 billion drop in his net worth, as reported by NewsOTG with the specific amount of damages can’t yet be determined due to the ongoing violence in the country.
The Rinat’s wealth fell from $5.46 billion to $5.37 billion in December alone.
