Lamborghini, an Italian luxury sports vehicle manufacturer, has announced plans to introduce two hybrid cars in India later this year. The business is saying goodbye to fossil fuel-powered cars all around the world after launching the Urus S, its most current pure internal combustion engine model. Sharad Agarwal, the head of Lamborghini India, revealed that the hybrid models, the Revuelto and Sterrato, will be more expensive and performance-oriented than the versions with internal combustion engines. The two-year waiting list for the Revuelto, Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid, has already been established. The cost of the vehicle has not yet been made public, although it is anticipated to be close to $600,000. Despite a low basis, Lamborghini’s India affiliate has experienced the company’s fastest growth over the past two years.
NewsOTG gathered that 60 percent of the 92 deliveries made by the corporation by the end of 2022 came from the Urus brand. According to Agarwal, the Urus luxury crossover SUV has established a market for itself and has proven to be popular with first-time Lamborghini consumers. Eight out of ten Urus purchasers are first-time buyers, and 10% of those purchasers also purchase other supercars from the manufacturer. A record 509 units of supercars were sold in India in 2022, breaking the previous peaks of 323 units in 2018 and 300 units in 2021. Supercars are defined as vehicles costing more than two crore rupees. In 2023, the numbers are anticipated to rise as a result of wealthy Indians continuing to invest in exorbitant machinery.
Agarwal credited stable rules and improved road infrastructure in India with the segment’s tenacious growth. While the Indian government pushes for greener, cleaner technology to combat rising pollution levels in major cities, Lamborghini has decided to concentrate on hybrid cars. The company is also following in the footsteps of other high-end automakers who have already introduced hybrid cars in India, including Porsche and Ferrari. Moving away from internal combustion engine variations and toward hybrid versions is a significant step for Lamborghini toward a more sustainable future. As the market for supercars in India expands, Lamborghini’s choice to use hybrid technology will not only meet consumer needs but also show the company’s dedication to sustainability.
